Payroll is complex and so are taxes. Payroll Operations team members are experts obsessed with helping Wave’s clients pay their employees while seamlessly managing their tax & filing obligations for them. 

About the role:

The Tax Operations Specialist is responsible for processing accurate and timely US payroll tax returns for Wave’s clients. They are responsible for processing large batches of payroll data and performing critical audit functions to ensure compliance to payroll laws. They provide valuable guidance to both internal and external stakeholders as a payroll subject matter expert.

Here's how you'll make an impact:

• File quarterly and year-end tax forms with respective agencies to ensure customers are compliant and up-to-date on their filings.
• Perform/oversee the automated payment process, obtain confirmations and import them into our system.
• Review and reconcile customer accounts quarterly.
• Build and maintain new processes as Wave expands into new jurisdictions with unique payroll tax requirements. 
• Collaborate with other teams acting as a Payroll subject matter expert. 
• Problem solve with payroll compliance in mind. That means you will be able to support an employer through complex payroll corrections, all the while ensuring government filings are produced correctly and compliance obligations are met. 
• Be responsible for processing tax service applications; enrol customers with federal and state agencies, as well as communicating with customers to onboard tax service.

• Experience with Payroll processing and knowledge of basic accounting concepts.
• Stellar communication skills with the ability to convey accounting concepts in lay terms.
• Willingness and motivation to challenge the status quo and deliver results. 
• A proactive thinker with a detail-oriented mindset. 
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with a process-oriented mindset, always searching for opportunities for improvement to make our product the best it can be.
• Experience working with customers; delivering not-so-good news while still leaving the business owner feeling positive about Wave.
